Like many medieval towns, it’s best years and peak population (30,000) are well behind it. This formerly walled city dates back to the 5th century.There are now about 4,000 inhabitants but Viviers remains remarkably well preserved. Cars are heavily restricted (largely due to the narrow streets) and its cobbled rues are welcoming. The town itself does a remarkable job protecting its heritage and history.
